Children's Sunday Programs

Quiet Time Worship Bags
Age-appropriate bags of materials and resources are available for children to use during the Sunday morning worship services.
 
Sunday School Classes
In addition to a nursery for children 3 years old and younger, there are four Sunday School Classes for children.
  • The Beginners Class is for pre-schoolers who are four and five years old.
  • Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders go to the Primary Class
  • The Middler Class is where 3rd and 4th graders belong
  • 5th and 6th graders are taught in the Junior Class.

Children's Weekday Programs

AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed)
Awana is a ministry to children from age 3 through sixth grade that will be held every Wednesday night from 6:00 - 8:00 pm beginning September 24. Pre-registration for Awana will be held on Sunday, August 24 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The registration will be held at the church pavilion where home-made ice cream will be served. For more information about the pre-registration or the Awana program, contact the church office at 743-7303.


Children's Summer Programs

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School for children age 3 through sixth grade is offered each summer. Dates for the 2009 VBS will be posted in winter.

 

 


Community Outreach

Adopt-a-Highway
This ministry helps protect our environment and provide a nicer, cleaner look to our area by cleaning a two-mile section of Park Road twice a year.
 
Busy Bees
  In addition to fundraising for the church, the Busy Bees serve meals and banquets to outside groups upon request and availability.
 

COOL (Christ's Outreach of Love)
This ministry, named Christ's Outreach of Love, provides a free meal and companionship around the table for anyone and everyone. Home delivery service is also available. The next meal to be served at the church will be from 2;00-6:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2007. Call the church office (743-7303) for more information or to request home delivery.

Funeral Dinner Committee

Meals are prepared and served at the church for family and friends following a funeral, memorial service or graveside committal.

Hands Raised in Praise Puppeteers

God's Word is presented in lively and often humorous ways by a wide variety of puppets. The Puppet Team is available to travel to other locations upon request and availability.

In the Garden Ministry

This ministry provides yard work services to individuals or families in our church family or the community who need some extra help.

 

Tape Ministry

Audio and video tapes of the Sunday morning worship services are made available to shut-ins, the ill, those recuperating or any one who requests them.

 

 


Christian Education Ministries

Sunday School for all ages is offered each Sunday morning from 9:40 -10:40. We strive to offer a variety of subjects to meet the various needs and interests that are important to a successful Christian life. Students may elect to attend different classes as the studies change periodically.
 

Agape Class (Adults)
This class of adults is attended by college students through senior citizens and currently is studying the Book of Exodus. This class for adults of all ages is located in the large room on the far right side of the education wing.

Faithsetters (Adults)
In a small and intimate group setting this class meets in classroom #2 off of the multi-purpose room.

Elective Class 1 (Adults)
This class is currently involved in an in-depth study of the book of Jeremiah.

Elective Class 2 (Adults)
Meeting in the pastors' office, this class studies Bible texts from the Common Lectionary.


Elective Class 3 (Adults)
This group is finishing up a study on "50 Days of Heaven"



Group Ministries


In addition to the specialized group ministries below, several small groups also meet regularly in the homes of various parishioners. These groups may discuss the Bible, Christian topics, or issues that are affecting group members. Persons are invited to join an existing small group or to help begin new groups.
 
 

Christian Classics (adults 55+ and their spouses of any age)
Generally meets at the church in the evening of the third Tuesday of every month. Special events such as bus trips, picnics and meeting with groups at other churches are also held.


United Methodist Women
Meets at 7:00 pm on the first Monday of even numbered months.


The Happy Hearts
This encouragement/support group meets at 2:00 pm on the second Tuesday of every month. At each meeting opportunity is given for individuals to talk about things that concern them, such as fear, loneliness, grief,etc., in confidence or to the group.


Library

A well-stocked library of books, video and audio resources is open and available all week long. Materials are available for children, youth and adults. In the near future plans call for computer capabilities to be added.

For 2008, $40,173 has been budgeted to support the following missions and ministries:

3. Organizations/Ministries:
  • Mission Central, Mechanicsburg, PA
  • Child Evangelism Fellowship, Middleburg, PA
  • Susquehanna Valley House of Hope, Danville, PA
  • Union County Meals on Wheels
  • Pregnancy care Center, Lewisburg, PA
  • Intervarsity, Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, PA
4. Other ministries receive support include:
  • The Camping ministry of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church
  • Benevolence Ministries of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.
In 2008 a total of twenty-three people from the congregation participated in the following mission trips and workcamps: Echo Ranch camp in Alaska; mission for orphaned children in Uganda; and Honduras.


Music Ministries

Chancel Choir
Rehearses 7:00 pm Wednesdays (September through May) and sings at the 10:50 service.


Prince of Peace Hand Bell Choir
Rehearses 6:30 pm Tuesdays (September through April) and plays every six to eight weeks, on Christmas Eve and on Holy Thursday.


Praise Team
Rehearses Thursdays at 6:30 and leads the 8:20 Sunday service all year round.

 


Women's Ministries

United Methodist Women
An active United Methodist Women's chapter meets at 7:00 pm on the first Monday of even numbered months.

 


Youth Ministries (Jr./Sr. High)

Youth Group
Under the leadership of Christina McDermott, Youth Director, youth from sixth through twelfth grades meet Wednesdays during the school year from 6:00 - 7:30 for worship, study, and fun.

 

Junior High Sunday School Class
7th and 8th graders are currently studying "Battle Cry for My Generation"

Senior High Sunday School Class
“Names of God” is the topic the senior highers are exploring.


Young Adult Ministries (ages 19-30)

College.
Care packages are sent to college students once each semester.
 
The "18-24 Prayer Ministry" allows parishioners to "adopt" a college student for the school year. Participants support the student through prayer and other words and acts of encouragement.

Young Adult Groups
A group of young adults meets every Tuesday night for discussion, Bible study and fellowship. Occasionally trips to concerts or fun activities are also scheduled.
